Want to beat your buddy across the lake? Wouldn't it be cool if you could do it on a rig that's not too pricey?
If speed on a budget sounds better than a long, cool drink on a hot summer day, then hop aboard Stingray's new
210LR. Quite simply, this boat is 21 feet of lake-blistering fun.
The 210 is available in three layouts, and we tore up South Carolina's Lake Robinson with the LR version, which
features an oversized sunpad, U-shaped aft bench and twin, adjustable helm chairs that firmly cradle you in turns.
Pushed by a 260 hp MerCruiser 5.0L MPI and twisting a 21-inch Laser II prop, our 210LR jumped from 0 to 30 mph in
7.1 seconds and, even more impressively, topped out at 58 mph. That'll get 'er done.
Carrying two men and test gear, and with her 35-gallon tank three-quarters full, our rig tracked extremely well
through mild to moderate waves, and was nimble but sure-footed in the sharpest of turns. Stingray's
performance-oriented Z-plane hull likes to be aired out—although she can feel a bit light in a chop when
trimmed up at speed.
Highlights include: a roomy engine bay with Bimini storage; a new, wider swimstep (we love the fiddled edge);
and a sunpad walkthrough so you don't have to traipse across the upholstery.
All told, Stingray's racy 210LR delivers excellent performance and outstanding fuel economy (5.1 mpg at a 2500 rpm
cruise) at a reasonable price. Throw in bragging rights and she's a deal that's hard to pass up.
